For the final quarter of 2019, we have chosen City Hospice as our Money Box Campaign Winner.
City Hospice help patients with diagnoses such as Cancer, Dementia, Motor Neurone Disease (MND), Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) or other life-limiting illnesses.
The team deliver community palliative care for patients aged 18 and over, all across Cardiff. They help manage patients’ symptoms and offer essential support so that each person in their care can live their lives to the fullest and for as long as possible.
Whether in their patients’ own homes or at their centre in Whitchurch, the City Hospice team dedicate time to understanding the preferences of those they care for and work with them and their families to support whatever their choice may be.
Following their application for our Money Box Campaign, we were invited to the City Hospice centre to see, first hand, the work that the team carry out to support so many.
Their centre in Whitchurch is a fantastic place. It’s bright and vibrant with a welcoming community, energised by volunteers and the support of fundraisers whose kind donations and collective efforts go towards supporting families throughout Cardiff.
As we were shown around the centre, City Hospice Corporate Partnerships Manager and former Light-Heavyweight World Boxing Champion, Nicky Piper MBE (pictured left) described to us the work carried out by the team.
A range of therapies are available, such as massage and reflexology. Day centre groups with theatrical performances, quizzes and visits from therapy dogs allow patients and carers to socialise. Clinics and drop-in sessions with doctors, nurses and financial advisors are available and bereavement services for both adults and children are delivered by a team of qualified and experienced counsellors.
Having seen the level of care that City Hospice provides, we are delighted to award them with our Money Box Campaign prize for the final quarter of this year.
We wish the City Hospice team a very Merry Christmas and hope they have a marvellous New Year, which sees them continuing their exceptional work and support for those who need it throughout Cardiff.
